Being a Geordie I was brought up not really wearing a coat, going out, even in winter, in the snow, down town wearing a dress and heels. Well after living in Australia for 2 years it has turned me so soft.
I decided, spontaneously as usual to book a random kayak trip at night, in winter, to go look at glow worms!!!
Wrapped up in a so many layers and borrowed items of warm clothing on a mission of a drive to a small town out of Hamilton called Cambridge to a launch point off a beaten track to find Epworth camp.
We kayaked our way down a beautiful section of the Waikato River to the Pokaiwhenua stream and into the glow-worm canyon.
Tonight was a tick off the bucket list. Have you ever been in what feels the middle of no where, glazing upon the stars on a very surreal night. The glow worms twinkled like Christmas lights in a rave.
Combined with a campfire, hot chocolate, marshmallows, wine and cheese was just a nice added touch by the Boatshed Kayaks Trip.
Our group drifted slowly down stream using only the light from the glow-worms.
If you have never seen glow worms or if you have but only in a cave then this is a very different experience. More magical and kind of romantic. There was moments you forget where you are and that you are actually floating on the water, in the cold winter night and gaze at the stars and twinkling glow worms. It is special experience I would definately recommend.
Saturday nights here in NZ are not the same as my wild Geordie days back home but do not get stuck in a routine.
New Zealand is a stunning country and I highly recommend you to visit.
