Kuta can be a love hate destination. I have heard so many bad things about Kuta but I can definitely see the attraction. It is a huge playground for the Aussies and a haven for backpackers with a range of accommodation matching every budget up to the glam 5 star resorts.
This place can be chaotic, overcrowded and congested. I remember sitting in a taxi squeezing my new friends hand in horror that our taxi tightly squeezed its way passed other cars down the wrong way of a narrow one way street and the wrong way around a roundabout. However, amongst all the mayhem this place somehow works where as back home that would be road rage at its best.
The city is very Americanised with the big shopping centres and big brand names but mixed with the madness of street markets and road side vendors where they will try to temp you with fakes Nike’s, cheap fashions and many other souvenirs. Touts will persistently try to get you to buy something from them. Score yourself a bargain or score yourself a headache!
Once the sun goes down Kuta is the place to party with many nightclubs and there is always an irish bar and many happy hour specials.
Tips to remember….
*Try to always get metered cabs Bluebird Taksi is the most trusted.
*Be careful walking at night. Not everywhere has street lights or footpaths.
