I guess you could say that I am quite independent. I have no issues doing things alone like going to the movies, going to a cafe, going for a hike. I have traveled to many countries alone. I moved to New Zealand alone. It has been good for me and helped me grow so much.
Recently out on a beach walk I bumped into this couple and one conversation that i keep replaying in my mind was the gentleman asking “why would you come here to this beach and do this walk by yourself ? Are you lonely? Why is no one with you?.”
I replied because I wanted to come to the beach and explore plus it beats sitting in the house on a beautiful day. He persisted but ‘why alone? Are you not lonely? ”
To answer honestly: – Yes it can be lonely sometimes but what’s the alternative? Keep waiting for someone to go with you and put your life on hold? If I kept waiting for people to come with me I think I would still be back in the UK, waiting. People get on with their own lives and sometimes people don’t want to commit. Each person has their own schedule, their own path to follow.
Yes it is amazing to have friends and share experiences, I completely agree. But you still need to be you. I encourage every person to be independent and explore. I encourage everyone to travel and make decisions for themselves and live in the moment. Life is way to short to keep waiting for something or someone that might never happen.
